Brass Radiators Popular Questions

What Are The Two Valves On The Radiator?

You may notice two valves on your radiators, one is a valve that controls how much heat comes from your radiator valves, like thermostatic valves whereas the other one is a lockshield valve that controls the amount of pressure and water your radiator has inside of it. This blog explains the difference between valves and lockshield valves.

Do All Radiator Valves Fit All Radiators?

No, and this is important to take note of. Depending on where your pipes are in your room and where the valve placements are on the radiator will determine which valves you need. As valves come in a range of shapes it can be difficult to choose the right one, take a look below and see which is more relevant to you, and then you will know which radiator valves you will need.

Angled Valves - These are suitable if your pipework comes from the floor and the radiator has side connections.
Corner Valves - For radiators with side or underneath connections and pipework that comes from the wall.
Straight Valves - These are suitable if your pipework comes from the floor and the radiator has underneath connections.

Is A Manual Or Thermostatic Valve Better?

Manual radiator valves - These are designed to turn your radiator on and off, you can not control the temperature of the radiators with these valve types. They are usually more popular for radiators in spaces not used as often as living rooms for example.

Thermostatic radiator valves - These allow you to adjust and control the temperature of your radiator, they are designed for more used rooms to provide consistent comfort. They are great if you have a radiator that heats up your room quickly but also cools down just as quickly. With thermostatic radiator valves, you can put your radiator on a slightly lower temperature so the room stays at a comfortable temperature for longer, rather than switching it on and off repeatedly throughout the day.

What Style Of Radiator Will Brass Valves Suit?

Brass radiator valves look delightful on traditional radiators like cast iron radiators. They have a more antique appeal and many of our ornate radiator designs have a special finish that gives it a more aged look that works well with traditional valves with an antique brass finish.

Brass radiator valves also look appealing on more modern radiator designs. Our polished brass valves and brushed brass valves add a pop of colour to modern designer radiators. One great example is the Lux Heat Flat Antique Brass Vertical Radiator, these come in an antique brass finish to easily harmonise with a brass radiator valve. If you love the idea of a coloured radiator but want more colour options and a more ornate design take a look at our Lux Heat Coloured Column Radiator.

How Do You Know If Your Radiator Valve Is Open?

Many of our thermostatic radiator valves are numbered to show you the setting your radiator is on so it's easy to know if these are on or off, but not all our valves show this so how can you tell if the valves are open or closed?

One easy way to check is to switch your heating on and see which ones heat up, but if you do want to quickly turn them off you need to make sure to turn the valves clockwise. And to turn them back on, turn the radiator valves anti-clockwise.
