Convector Radiators

Convector radiators are often seen as ordinary, but when you shop at Designer Radiators Direct, they are anything but. Our range of convector radiators like horizontal radiators and vertical convector radiators give you the chance to subtly bring more warmth into your space, whilst keeping your home heating stylish and in tune with the rest of the room.

Convector Radiators, Low Prices And Free UK Delivery On Selected Items.

Whilst a normal radiator heats water up from the top of the radiator down, the convector radiator circulates the water through a tube around the radiator itself. The tube is surrounded by small fins, or teeth on the outside or within the panels of the radiator. These fins are heated up by the radiator and utilise their extra contact surface to bring more heat into the room in which they are heating.

If you’re not satisfied with your room's BTU output or have issues keeping your space warm, why not invest in double convector fin radiators. They give you extra bang for your buck so you can ensure that you are keeping tabs on the heating efficiency of your space.

For those extra draughty rooms, a convector radiator can work wonders. We have single radiators, double radiators and triple convector radiators to heat your space perfectly whilst also keeping the aesthetic of your room in balance. Whatever your radiator needs, a convector radiator is the perfect unity of style and efficiency, maintaining strong BTU outputs and looking fab in the process!

It's recommended to know the BTU required to heat your space before purchasing a radiator, so we have made a free and easy to use BTU calculator so you can work this out quickly.

Convector Radiators Popular Questions

What Are The Benefits Of Convector Radiators?

The simple benefits of convector radiators is that they can be cost effective in the short and long term, from being highly affordable to purchase and affordable to run. They are also made with impressive designs so instead of relying on just your boiler to warm up they can use the air, making them heat up quicker and evenly warm the space it is placed, this means you don’t have to leave your boiler on or as long so saving on your gas bills! They are also highly durable so you won't need to worry about replacing them anytime soon.

If you are looking for a smaller design and can't see anything you like on this page then have a look at our small radiator page, we have a wider selection to choose from in a range of sizes, designs and finishes.

Do Convector Radiators Take up a Lot of Space?

Just like any other radiator, convector radiators come in a huge range of styles and sizes. Meaning that some might take up more room than others. They also come in different “thicknesses”, so single convector radiators are thinner than double convectors and so on. If you're looking for a smaller radiator to heat up a small space then single convectors are for you. The “thicker” the radiator the more heat it produces. But they can also come in small radiator sizes so you can even use double and triple radiators in larger spaces. We do recommend that you check the BTU output you’ll need to heat your space so you can pick a radiator perfect for your room.

What Size Radiator Do I Need?

Convector radiators come in a range of size options from width and length, to thicknesses like our type 21 and 22 radiators. All of the sizes available will have different BTU outputs, so its important to know the BTU required to heat your space efficiently first, otherwise you could end up purchasing a radiator that's either to weak to heat your room or too powerful that it wastes energy. To work out the right BTU output your room needs please use our free BTU calculator.

Do Double And Triple Convector Radiators Cost More To Run?

Double convector radiators cost a little more than single convectors to run and triple convectors cost a little more than double convectors. This is due to the different sizes and thicknesses that the radiator comes in, and because they'll use more materials to produce more heat. But overall convector radiators can cost lower to run than other radiators as they heat up quicker and can emit heat quicker, meaning you can turn your boiler off sooner.

If you would like a radiator with rapid heat outputs but you can't see a style on this page visit our aluminium radiators. Aluminium is a superconductor and is known in the radiator world for being able to heat up quicker than other materials.

What’s The Difference Between A Convector Radiator & A Regular Radiator?

Convection Radiators are built slightly differently from regular radiators with changes in internal and external components. Convection radiators work with a scientific design as it cycles through the cold and warm air, creating warm air that rises and once it's cooled down and lowered it's again recycled through the radiator and heated back up. This gives your space a continuous flow of warmth. To learn more about convector vs radiators visit our blog.

What Are The Different Types Available?

You’ve probably noticed that our convector radiators have Type so and so on the end of their names. This is because convector radiators, unlike standard radiators, have a range of panels and fins that vary between each type. For example a type 11 has two panels and one set of convector fins. Whereas type 21 and 22 are different. Each can provide brilliant heat outputs, but typically the higher the number the higher the BTU.

Do These Radiators Need Valves?

All central heating radiators need valves installed, this includes our convector radiators. The most popular valves paired up with these radiators are thermostatic radiator valves as they allow for flexible control over your heating. They are available in a range of shapes that are suitable for small radiators, but the shape you need will depend on your pipes and the radiator connection. See our valve guide to help you determine which valves you’ll need.
